Apr 27, 2017 (newstodate): The Icelandic LCC WOW Air has sky-high ambitions for growing its importance if air traffic between Europe and the USA.
Speaking in a TV-interview, Daniel Snabjornsson, WOW Air VP Network and Planning said that the carrier aims at attaining a share of 10 percent in the European aviation market between Europe and USA, with up to 60 mio passengers on its aircraft.
By contrast, the country's national carrier Icelandair currently accounts for about two percent of this traffic.
Icelandair still contributed 45.3 percent of the traffic at Iceland's Keflavik Airport in March 2017, but WOW Air's proportion had grown to 28.9 percent with a strong sustained upward trend.
In February 2017 Isavia estimated that Icelandair would account for 50.2 percent of this coming summer's flight operations, with WOW Air taking 2nd position with 27.2 percent.
