Apr 19, 2017 (newstodate): A delegation from China's veterinary authority is now in Norway to meet its Norwegian counterpart as part of effort to reopen the export of seafood to the potent Chinese market, closed to Norway since 2010.
Also earlier this month, Norway's prime minister paid a visit to Shanghai to warm up trade with China.
At the same time, a Norway China Business Summit 2017 gathered more than 1000 business leaders from both China and Norway over two days in Beijing and Shanghai to talk about the new possibilities after the normalization between the two countries.
-Regions such as Canada, Scotland and Norway that border the Atlantic Ocean are known for high-quality salmon. Each kilogram of salmon from those countries, however, normally costs as much as 100 yuan more than the fish from other countries, such as Chile that is now one of China's largest sources of salmon, writes CTGN, a Chinese media.
Despite this competitive disadvantage on pricing, Norway's seafood exporters see bright prospect ahead, targeting some 70,000 tonnes of fresh salmon to China by 2020.
As late as during the first eight months 2010 and thus prior to the Nobel Prize Award to a Chinese dissident, the export volumes of fresh Norwegian salmon by air to Chinese consumers still reached 19,300 tonnes.
