Apr 26, 2017 (newstodate): Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, the biggest of three serving the Moscow region, will soon see the opening of the largest cargo complex in Russia.
The coming facility now nearing the final stages of construction will cover 42,300 sq m and is designed for handling of 380,000 tonnes of cargo, with ample space for future expansion going up to a capacity of one mio tonnes per year.
The terminal will build on sophisticated automation implemented by Loedige aiming at cutting manual interference with the cargo and enhancing quality and speed in the processes.
With the commissioning of the new cargo complex slated for Q3, 2017, Sheremetyevo Airport is striving to attain a position as a global cargo hub, supported by Volga-Dnepr and Aeroflot.
In this year's Q1, the airport handled a total of 60,000 tonnes of cargo which is over 60 percent of the total volume through the three Moscow airports.
The airport's Top-10 export and transit destinations in Q1 were Shanghai, Frankfurt, Beijing, Amsterdam, Chicago, Hong Kong, Milan, Vladivostok, Singapore, and Tel Aviv, while the Top-10 import and transit destinations were Frankfurt, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Milan, Amsterdam, Beijing, Paris, Munich, Zhengzhou, and Brussels.
