Apr 24, 2017 (newstodate): In Lithuania, Kaunas Airport is growing its importance as a center for aircraft maintenance.
One major player is Ryanair that is currently expanding its maintenance unit, Kaunas Aircraft Maintenance Services, with the opening of new additional workshops for aircraft components within the existing hangars, as well as recruiting additional aircraft airframe technicians.
Kaunas Aircraft Maintenance Services is now employing some 200 staff and expects to take in a further 50 technicians as the new facilities are opening.
In 2011, supported by EU's structural funds Ryanair decided to build its first aircraft technical maintenance center at Kaunas Airport, now comprising two aircraft maintenance hangars for servicing the fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and the carrier would also consider adding more hangar facilities in the future as the fleet grows.
