May 12, 2017 (newstodate): A new airline is under formation in Slovenia: VLM Airlines Slovenia, a subsidiary of SHS Aviation Slovenia.
The new airline has just obtained its AOC by the Slovenian Civil Aviation Agency and plans to launch services within a month.
With its home base at Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport, the carrier will start flights on a route network initially cmprising Belgrade, Berlin, Hamburg, London, Podgorica, Split, Zurich, Xian, Chongqing and Nanchang.
VLK Airlines Slovenia will gradually build a fleet to comprise six Airbus A320, a5 Airbus A330 and six Fokker 50 aircraft, but the start will be with the six ex-VLM Airlines Fokker 50 and two Airbus A320 aircraft.
Controlled by Chinese capital since December 2016, the mother company SHS Aviation Slovenia is managing the Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport, the country's second-largest airport, is planning for the handling 1.54 million passengers and 82,000 tonnes of cargo by 2022, rising to handling of two million passengers and 160,000 tonnes of cargo by 2028.
