Jun 09, 2017 (newstodate): The Chinese market represents a vast growth potential for the Norwegian exports of seafood.
Following on several high-level talks and reciprocal visits between Chinese and Norwegian politicians, institutions and authorities, existing snags hindering the flow of seafood exports to China are gradually being sorted out.
-Right now it is important to keep calm. Potentials are indeed huge, but there is still much to be done, and today's volumes of seafood shipments to China are still modest. I do not foresee a major increase here untill autumn, says Martin Langaas, Avinor Director Cargo.
-But of course, expectations for Norwegian seafood export growth to China run as high as 70-80,000 tonnes per year, going up to some 200,000 tonnes within a 10-year period.
-To cope with this increase, needs for direct freighter uplift from Oslo to China are growing as well, and we are already investing much effort in attracting carriers to grasp these opportunities. This includes also Chinese carriers and we expect to see a break-through in this within the coming period of time, says Mr Langaas.
