Jun 06, 2017 (newstodate): The rift between a number of Muslim countries and Qatar is having immediate and strong impact on the flights by Qatar Airways and Qatar Cargo.
Qatar Airways has been forced to cancel flights and reroute aircraft after Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Libya, Yemen and even the Maldives have severed diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing it of destabilising the region by support to terrorist groupings.
The countries behind the action have thus also banned all flights by Qatar Airways through their airspace, and this will strongly affect the carrier's entire flight schedules and routings to all other countries as well.
Bypassing the extensive Saudi Arabian airspace will force Qatar Airways to fly long detours entailing additional fuel burns, longer flying times and other crucial effects on the carrier's operational environment also hitting its routes to Europe and North America.
This may impact also Qatar Cargo's freighter flights to Oslo Airport.
