Jun 28, 2017 (newstodate): The Swedish/UK carrier West Atlantic has now taken delivery of yet another Boeing 747-400 converted freighter.
The carrier received the aircraft on June 23, 2017, and the aircraft will join the fleet of West Atlantic on UK registers to serve Royal Mail with postal flights under the five-year contract between West Atlantic and Royal Mail that took effect from the start of this year.
To meet the requirements of the contract, West Atlantic's fleet based at Coventry will eventually comprise nine Boeing 737 freighters and three British Aerospace ATP aircraft.
Building this fleet is not, however, just plain sailing, for related to the rapid increase in demand for aircraft the Lessors have been delayed in delivering the additional six Boeing 737-400 aircraft, resulting in the need to subcontract aircraft on a number of the routes served for Royal Mail.
Four Boeing 737-400 converted aircraft are scheduled to arrive between May and August, and will then replace all subcontracted aircraft except one.
