Jul 06, 2017 (newstodate): Uzbekistan's government has agreed a plan for construction of a second international airport to serve the capital, Tashkent.
Earlier plans comprised an expansion of the existing Tashkent Islam Karimov International Airport, but this has now been shelved over protests against extensive demolition of housing areas.
Instead, a second international airport will be built at the current military airport of Taskent-Vostochny Airport that also serves as a cargo airport while works will also be made at the existing international airport.
The project for a new international airport at Vostcohny will be supported by grants from South Korea's Korea International Cooperation Agency, and program details will now be worked out before the start of 2018.
