Aug 04, 2017 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport is seeing a brisk growth in still modest cargo volumes through the first half of 2017.
On March 27, 2017, SAS launched flights on its new route between Copenhagen Airport and Vagar Airport - and the market has clearly welcomed the added cargo capacity by a second provider alongside Atlantic Airways that was long alone in serving the Faroe Islands with flight connections.
During the period January-June 2017, Vagar Airport has thus been handling a total of 250 tonnes of cargo, which is a growth by 20.8 percent on a modest base - but growth actually only set in from March coinciding with the launch of SAS' flights on the route from Copenhagen.
The same goes for the handling of air mail volumes that has also increased by 14.6 percent, y-o-y, to 128.5 tonnes during H1 - and by 17.8 percent in March 2017 alone.
