Aug 29, 2017 (newstodate): The Avro RJ passenger aircraft that is now being retired from the fleets of several operators including Brussels Airlines and Swiss, would make an ideal case for freighter conversion.
One year ago, BAE Systems Regional Aircraft thus announced the launch of a RJ100 freighter conversion program, but it has now been decided to postpone the start of the program.
The company says that a least 10 firm orders for the converted aircraft must be signed before the program will start - and factors including the appearance on the market of eight cargo BAe 146-300QT aircraft has made the launch unrealistic at the moment.
Converted to freighter, the RJ100 would lift seven LD3 containers plus one smaller unit over up to 4,600 km, making it an ideal alternative for regional airfreight carriage
