Aug 24, 2017 (newstodate): Finnair is taking a cautious approach to the implementation of its coming new Cool Terminal at Helsinki Airport.
Originally slated for spring 2017, the gradual opening of the company's new cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport is now scheduled for October 2017, and full cargo operations will only start from January 2018, according to the latest information.
The existing cargo terminal will thus continue in operation until the final commissioning of the new facilities.
Designed to handling of all types and shapes of shipments, Finnair Cargo's focus is on handling of temperature-sensitive shipments including perishables and pharmaceuticals.
The new 31,000 sq m terminal will be divided into three zones: 25,000 sq m will be dedicated to general cargo handling, and two spaces for temperature-controlled zones, roughly 3,000 sq m each.
In contrast to the existing cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport, the coming COOL Terminal will have own aircraft parking stands and will benefit from short and safe driving distances to passenger aircraft at the terminals.
