Aug 02, 2017 (newstodate): Ryanair has now confirmed the progress of its plans for launching a new subsidiary in Poland - Ryanair Sun.
According to the carrier's annual report 2017, Ryanair Sun has already applied for an own Polish AOC, and plans are to start out with a fleet of five Boeing 737-800 aircraft based at Warsaw Modlin Airport and launching flights from the Summer 2018 schedule.
-We expect Ryanair Sun to become Poland's No. 1 charter airline as it grows to over 15 dedicated aircraft by summer 2019, the report states.
Ryanair Sun will be providing capacity for Polish tour operators as well as own seat-only sales, thus competing against both existing providers of charter aircraft capacity such as Small Planet Airlines, and scheduled carriers in the market.
Commenting on the new of Ryanair Sun already in April 2017, Small Planbet Airlines' COO, Simonas Bartkus said:
-Having been in this market for years, we have established strong relationships with the Polish tour operators, and all our aircraft are on signed contracts this summer as well. Ryanair's coming new subsidiary will add new competition in this market, but it should be noted that tour operators may consider Ryanair not just a provider of new capacity but also a competitor as Ryanair today offers seat-only flights from Poland to a number of destinations that tour operators themselves are marketing.
Small Planet Airlines Poland operates 10 aircraft on a Polish AOC offering flights out of a number of Polish airports for Polish tour operators.
