Sep 21, 2017 (newstodate): While the Airbus A380 order book has remained on the shelf for years and the largest customer Emirates is to take delivery of its 100th aircraft, Airbus may see its future for the A380 in China.
Speaking at a Beijing conference, Eric Chen, CEO of Airbus China, said that there is a market for 60 to 100 Airbus A380 type aircraft in China over the next five to seven years.
-Of the 1,480 Airbus lanes in traffic, there are only five Airbus A380 aircraft, all operated by the Chinese airline China Southern Airlines. At the same time passengers volumes in China during this year's H1 have risen by 15 percent, y-o-y, he said.
Airbus pins its hopes in the Chinese market on the Airbus A380plus concept, comprising more efficient airflow and larger wings to enhance efficiency, and cabin changes to allow for more seats.
