Sep 13, 2017 (newstodate): Armenia is preparing the opening a new airport for commercial air traffic.
Syunik Airport, in the country's southern town of Kapan, will become operational in the first half of 2018 after an extensive reconstruction project started in 2016 and will from the start have direct flights to the country's capital, Yerevan.
The airport has one 1,590m runway and has been closed since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
