Sep 01, 2017 (newstodate): Yesterday's announcement of Copenhagen as a coming new destination on Cathay Pacific's network marks an important milestone on a long march for the carrier's top representative in the market.
In contrast to the two other new routes by the carrier to Dublin and Brussels, the route to Copenhagen will initially be operated only seasonally from May 2 till October 12, 2018.
-We have indeed been working on this for a very long time and are thrilled that the decision to launch flights from Hong Kong to Copenhagen has now been finalized, says Allan Petersen, Cathay Pacific Sales Manager Scandinavia, Finland and Baltics.
-We have already met very positive and reassuring response from customers in the market and are now in the early process of scheduling a massive effort to promote the new route in not just the Danish, but also other markets within our reach. I would expect passenger flows also from neighboring markets to be fed into this route.
-It is now up to our efforts to prove the sustainability of the new direct non-stop route to Hong Kong aiming at, first, to secure the addition of a fourth rotation similar to the pattern at the two other new destinations, and, next, year-round services.
-Two conditions must be met, however: one is sufficient market volumes, another is the availability of Airbus A350 capacity, says Mr Petersen.
Cathay Pacific is currently building a fleet to comprise 22 Airbus A350-900, of which 18 are already in operation, and 26 Airbus A350-100 aircraft yet to be delivered.
With the opening of the new route, Cathay Pacific will also become the first Airbus A350 operator at Copenhagen Airport.
