Sep 20, 2017 (newstodate): North Germany's Frankfurt Hahn Airport has seen the trends turning and cargo traffic growing again.
Only few years ago, the situation was dark as cargo airlines left Frankfurt Hahn, including Qatar Airways Cargo from October 27, 2013, Aeroflot Cargo that stopped its freighter operations from July 2013, Air Cargo Germany that went bust by mid-April 2013, and Etihad Crystal Cargo that also left Frankfurt Hahn Airport in favor of Frankfurt Airport from the start of 2013.
The Chinese carriers Yangtze River Express with up to three weekly rotations also left Frankfurt Hahn in 2015 - but the good news is that it is now back under a new name: Suparna Airlines.
Starting from August 28, 2017, the carrier is operating initially one weekly rotation on the route between Xian Xianyang International Airport and Frankfurt Hahn with a Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
Behind Suparna Airlines is the potent Chinese business conglomerate Hainan Group that now also holds the majority in the airport, with high ambitions to rebuild the airport's role as a prime hub for Europe-China cargo flights.
