Sep 07, 2017 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport may see a new scheduled airline operator in summer 2018.
According to reports in Lithuanian media, the Polish airline LOT is in talks with Kaunas Airport over opening flights on a new route between Kaunas and Warsaw from the start of next year's summer schedule, aiming at six weekly rotations.
One key driver is Kaunas' regional government that would bring in support from its incentive scheme to further the region's connectivity.
LOT first experienced the effficiency of Kaunas Airport during this year's period of runway refurbishment at Vilnius Airport as all air traffic was relocated to Kaunas Airport as a temporary measure.
Kaunas Airport would become the Polish carrier's third destination in Lithuania where Palanga Airport was added as the second point of service on March 28, 2016, after Vilnius that has been in LOT's network for decades.
