Sep 11, 2017 (newstodate): There is still a long way to go before Norway's exports of seafood to China are back on the track as a leading provider.
-There are still challenges on the market access for Norwegian salmon to China. Normalization of the market access is a process, and there are several issues Norwegian and Chinese authorities are working on solving, says Sigmund Bjoergo, Norwegian Seafood Council Director China.
-We do not know when we will see a normalization, however it still can take some time. The different issues follows different processes.
-It is safe to say, however, that the volume figures earlier mentioned for 2017 - some 40,000 tonnes - are not valid. They were probably based on full normalization.
-Direct cargo carriers would be positive for the time, quality and cost of logistics. However, I do not think the cargo uplift itself will solve the market access problems, as the current challenges are due to veterinarian questions not logistics, says Mr Bjoergo.
