Sep 28, 2017 (newstodate): Latvia may seem rather confident that Turkish Cargo will indeed continue to operate its Baltic freighter service at Riga Airport.
On July 1, 2017, Turkish Cargo introduced freighter flights on the route between Istanbul and Riga Airport, in Latvia, with two weekly Airbus A330-200F rotations.
Originally, the freighter service in the Baltic region was planned to be allocated to Vilnius, in Lithuania.
However, a runway reconstruction project closed Vilnius Airport for a period this summer - and the launch of the service was moved to Latvia instead.
Now, a company official confirms that there are currently no plans to leave Riga for Vilnius Airport, which was also stated at a recent Latvian exporters' gathering at Riga Airport.
According to information provided at the meeting, the introduction of the freighter service has boosted Turkish Cargo's market share at Riga Airport from two to six percent, with a stable outlook for the future.
