Jan 08, 2017 (newstodate): 2017 proved a new year of record in cargo volumes handled by Denmark's Billund Airport finally breaking the 70,000 tonnes line.
A total of 72,470 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by a sound 8.8 percent over the preceding year that was already another record year.
Total in 2017 included 25,696 tonnes of imports, up 11.8 percent, and 46,774 tonnes of exports that were also up by 7.3 percent.
In December 2017, volumes rose by only 0.1 percent to 6,013 tonnes as exports dropped 2.6 percent to 4,091 tonnes while imports were still up by 6.6 percent to 1,922 tonnes.
One key driver behind the success is the two weekly Turkish Cargo freighter services between Istanbul and Billund.
The carrier first launched a weekly freighter operation at Billund on April 10, 2016, adding a second frequency from early November 2016.
