Jan 26, 2018 (newstodate): As expected, the Latvian carrier airBaltic has now announced the re-opening of flights on the route to Kazakhstan.
Starting from April 29, 2018, the carrier will offer three weekly rotations on the route between Riga and Almaty, to be served seasonally with Bombardier CS300 aircraft.
Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan until Astana was constructed in the north, was earlier on airBaltic's route network.
With the first flight on April 17, 2008, airBaltic started serving the route with two weekly rotations from Riga using Boeing 737 aircraft, but pulled out again from the start of the winter schedule 2009/10 as the crisis hit the global economy.
