Oct 10, 2018 (newstodate): Speaking of Norwegian seafood exports, fresh salmon immediately takes center stage. But there is more to it..
In 2018, Norwegian exporters will also send some 1,100-1,200 tonnes of live king crabs by air to consumers in primarily Korea and other Asian markets.
A major exporter of king crabs is Cape Fish that alone will account for some 400 tonnes, lifted by DHL from Lakselv Airport into Oslo Airport for onward flights by Korean Air Cargo, DHL and other carriers, as well as trucked into Helsinki Airport for uplift on Finnair's Asian route network.
The DHL freighter service at Lakselv was launched on May 23, 2017, and on September 8, 2017, DHL Freight Forwarding introduced its twice-weekly freighter service from Oslo Airport to Seoul, continuing to Shanghai using an Atlas Air Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
-We are, however, not entirely satisfied with DHL's logistics services that remain marred by irregularities, says Bjorn Ronald Olsen, Cape Fish CEO.
-We have seen quite some cancellations and changes of operators using other aircraft types out of Lakselv which creates some snags and difficulties that generates delays and impacts on the quality of service. As a result, we continue to look into other alternatives as well.
-Earlier, we chartered own aircraft to lift exports and this enabled us to keep the entire logistics under our own control. Today, the issue of traffic rights pose a major challenge but we may find solutions to this as well, says Mr Olsen.
