Aug 27, 2018 (newstodate): The general shortage of pilots in the aviation industry is felt by SAS as well.
The SAS Group was to set up a fleet of nine Airbus A320neo aircraft allocated to a new Irish subsidiary, but has failed to recruit the number of pilots needed to man the cockpits.
Plans were to base these new aircraft on Irish registration, but after delivery of seven aircraft the next two will be placed with SAS in Scandinavia instead and operated by Scandinavian pilots.
The plans for SAS Ireland have not been shelved, and a sustained recruitment drive will continue to seek pilot candidates in the market.
SAS' Ireland-based subsidiary was established in early 2017 and was planned to be fully operational by November 1, 2017, with a fleet of nine Airbus A320neo for flights on routes out of London Heathrow and Malaga.
