Jan 22, 2019 (newstodate): Georgia is seeing rising volumes of flights and a steady increase in number of airline operators and now plans for new cargo business as well.
So far, the country's Tbilisi Airport is alone in handling of air cargo, but plans are now shaping up for construction of a cargo terminal at Kutaisi Airport, supported financially by the EU.
In December 2018 alone, the airport handled 191 flights, which is twice the volume in the previous year, and in 2018 the airport handled 617,342 passengers, up 52 percent, y-o-y.
Almost all traffic is provided by narrow-body aircraft including LCC, but cargo will contribute significantly to the profitability of the airlines as well as generate new income for the airport.
