Mar 12, 2019 (newstodate): In November 2016, Avinor first presented its plans for establishing a new dedicated seafood airfreight center at Oslo Airport.
The plans comprise the construction of a new automated terminal capable of handling up to 250,000 tonnes of seafood shipments, building on cooperation with investors and partners in the seafood industry and providers of seafood air logistics.
According to the earlier project schedule, construction works on the new facility should have started in January 2019, while the final commissioning of the airfreight seafood center was slated for Q4, 2020.
The 17,000 sq m terminal will have the capacity of handling two freighters or eight wide-body passenger aircraft per hour, corresponding to some 200 tonnes per hour. The facility will accommodate the storage of 500 ULDs and have 27 trucking docks.
In August 2018, Avinor signed a MoU with WFS to operate the new terminal, now slated to be commissioned in 2021.
But apart from this, little news have reached the market on the Avinor Seafood Terminal at Oslo Airport.
newstodate has obtained these comments from Avinor in March 2019:
-Avinor continues to work with WFS on the project, and we are quite optimistic about being able to soon present our plans for the road ahead.
-Avinor does not recognize media reports about challenges in finding investors for the project. There are, however, some initial processes that have required more time than anticipated, the email response from Avinor reads.
