Apr 02, 2019 (newstodate): As of April 1, 2019, Norwegian has picked Denmark's Billund Airport as its new base with one Boeing 737-800 aircraft allocated.
Norwegian will launch flights to eight new destinations from Billund Airport, with four scheduled services to Malaga from April 1, Palma de Mallorca from May 6, Ponta Delgada from May 7, and Faro to follow from May 11, 2019.
Four other routes will be operated for tour operator Apollo from Billund to Chania starting from May 5, to Zante from May 6, to Rhodes from May 10, and to Kos from May 16, 2019.
Norwegian’s new operation will add 14 extra weekly departures from Billund Airport, compensating for the airport's drop in traffic after the demise of the airline Primera.
Primera Air opened Billund Airport as an operating base in August 2008 with the allocation of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft, but folded its wings on October 1, 2018.
Norwegian has been online at Billund Airport since its entry in 2010 on the domestic route from Copenhagen Airport, and is presently serving the airport from Oslo Gardermoen on a year-round basis, in addition to seasonal summer services to Alicante and Barcelona.
With the opening of the coming new routes from Billund, Norwegian will operate flights to seven scheduled destinations plus four destinations on behalf of Bravo Tours.
