In 2018, Russia became the third most popular destination for passengers departing from Riga Airport, with passenger traffic from Riga to Russia up by 17.2 percent, y-o-y, to 747.500 on routes served by airBaltic, Aeroflot and UTair.
The Russian carrier Aeroflot even accounted for 3.1 percent of the airport's total passenger traffic, totaling 219,000 passengers and securing a position as the fifth-largest carrier in Riga, with UTair adding some 83,000 passengers, corresponding to 1.2 percent of the total volumes through Riga Airport.
On the cargo side, 11 percent of Riga airport's total volumes in 2018 was generated by Russian cargo that was up no less than 28 percent, y-o-y, to over 3,000 tonnes.
