May 24, 2019 (newstodate): The last TU-134 aircraft in commercial service with Russian airlines has now ended its service life.
Lifting off on its virgin flight in May 1980, the aircraft performed its last commercial flight with Alrosa Airlines on May 22, 2019, and has now entered an afterlife at the Museum of Aviation History of Tolmachevo Airport.
More than 850 TU-134 aircraft were built in the Soviet Union, and the aircraft served as the backbone in Russian airlines' regional and international flights.
Since 2002, the aircraft has been banned from EU air space due to noise regulations, leaving it in service on domestic routes in Russia and the CIS countries.
While now out of commercial service, a limited number of TU-134 aircraft are still operated on behalf of various Russian government and state organizations.
