Aug 21, 2019 (newstodate): With Icelandic majority ownership, Cabo Verde Airlines is engaging on a new chapter of expansion and development.
Capo Verde Airlines has launched flights to new destinations Lagos in Nigeria, Luanda in Angola, Porto Alegre in Brazil and Washington in the United States, bringing the number of destinations in Europe, Africa and South and North America to thirteen.
The airline is also expanding its aircraft fleet from three to five Boeing 757-200 aircraft sourced from Icelandair before the end of this year, and the airline plans to have a total of 12 aircraft in the fleet by 2023.
In March 2019, Loftleidir Cabo Verde, owned 70 percent by Loftleidir Icelandic ehf, and 30 percent by Icelandic investors, acquired 51 percent of Cabo Verde Airlines after a period serving as strategic partner with Cabo Verde Airlines and the Government of Cabo Verde.
In co-operation with other subsidiaries of the Icelandair Group, Loftleidir Icelandic provided managerial support including network planning, marketing, sales and distribution planning as well as restructuring of Carbo Verdian carrier's fleet.
The restructuring process also aims at turning Ilha do Sal Airport into the carrier's main hub for traffic between Africa, North America and Europe.
