Aug 02, 2019 (newstodate): The seafood export industry is taken by surprise by an abrupt Russian ban on transiting seafood shipments through Moscow's airports.
The ban has forced AirBridgeCargo to suspend today's freighter flight from Oslo to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport for transfer to onward flights on ABC's extensive route network to Asia and USA, using Boeing 747-8F aircraft.
The decision follows on the denial by the Russian authorities on Tuesday for one of ABC's two freighters to land at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, forcing it to return to Oslo with a full load of salmon destined for South Korea, while the second freighter left Oslo empty.
newstodate has been working hard to obtain information on the background for the Russian action, but so far neither Seafood Norway not the regional representative of ABC has been able to shed light on the situation.
Since November 15, 2016, AirBridgeCargo has been offering a twice-weekly freighter service from Oslo to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, going up to three weekly flights from May 28, 2019.
