Sep 19, 2019 (newstodate): Will WOW Air be back in the air again already in October this year?
At a press conference in Reykjavik on September 6, 2019, the US company USAerospace Associates LLC announced that a purchase agreement has been signed for the acquisition of the WOW Air brand, which will bring back WOW Air in the air.
Initially based on a US AOC, later to be supplemented by an Icelandic AOC, ambitions are to start low-cost flights between Keflavik and Washington already in October 2019, initially with a fleet of two aircraft and planning to grow to six aircraft by summer 2020 - finally landing at some 10-12 aircraft.
However, with only roughly one month to go, no further news have emerged to support the reality of getting WOW Air back on the monitors at the airports of Keflavik or Washington.
Plans were to open bookings already last week, but WOW Air has still not launched a website.
Also, it remains to be seen if the new WOW air will receive an operating licence or slots at Keflavik Airport or at Dulles, Washington, and neither airport authorities have confirmed that an official request has been filed, nor has the joint Nordic slots coordinator Nordic Airport Coordination received a formal request.
A revived WOW Air has also not applied for a US AOC and licences, but the projected carrier might still start out with chartering capacity to operate its proposed route network.
All in all: the revival of WOW Air is still flying in thin air..
