Jan 06, 2020 (newstodate): As expected, Denmark's Billund managed to raise the bar again concerning cargo volumes handled in 2019.
A new record of 74,064 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by 1.2 percent, y-o-y, and continuing the sustained trend of annual cargo records since 2016.
All through 2019, the trend has seen imports decreasing and exports increasing - and in 2019, the drop in import volumes was 9.4 percent, while exports continued to rise by 6.7 percent, to 22,824 and 51,240 tonnes, respectively.
December 2019 performed even better, with volumes up by 5.2 percent to 5,749 tonnes with imports down 5.9 percent, and exports up by 10.6 percent, y-o-y.
-Billund Airport has thus again gone against the generally over-all negative trend in the cargo industry, and what is not shown in the figures is also the fact that the proportion of flown cargo is growing by three to four percent of the total volumes, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport VP Cargo.
