Jan 24, 2020 (newstodate): Rumours circulating since 2019 of a second Chinese carrier mulling plans for flights to Iceland have gained fresh stimulus.
It has been confirmed that Juneyao Airlines will introduce twice-weekly flights from summer 2020 between Shanghai and Keflavik by an extension of the existing route between Shanghai and Helsinki operated since June 28, 2019.
But a second Chinese carrier, Tianjin Airlines is said to be considering Keflavik Airport with three weekly flights, rumoured already earlier this year for launch during the current winter 2019/20 schedule - but still unconfirmed.
However, at meetings with stakeholder in the tourism industry in Reykjavik, the Chinese ambassador to Iceland has presented OHs comprising images of both Juneyao Airlines and Tianjin Airlines, raising hopes to see a second Chinese connection at Iceland already this year.
