Feb 20, 2020 (newstodate): The market for used Boeing 747 aircraft is certainly limited, but acquiring two Boeing 747 aircraft with only eight years of service might still be attractive?
The two aircraft, one Boeing 747SP and one Boeing 747-200, took-off on their first flights in 1982, one delivered to Iraqi Airways, the second to serve as former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's presidential aircraft.
Facing the Iran/Iraq war, the two aircraft were however sent out of Iraq to be temporarily stored at Tozeur-Nefta Airport, in Tunisia. They never left again, having spent so far 29 of their 37 years on the ground.
In 2010, the Iraqi government made an unsuccessful attempt to sell the aircraft that have amassed a debt accruing to 4,8 mio euro in unpaid parking fees.
