Feb 11, 2020 (newstodate): Finnair has negotiated a slight rescheduling of the delivery of its next Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
The Airbus A350-900 number 15 made its first landing at Helsinki Airport yesterday, February 10, 2020, as the first of only two deliveries in 2020.
The second aircraft in 2020 was originally slated for delivery in April, but this has now been pushed back to June 2020, instead.
The decision is part of Finnair's efforts to adjust capacity to decreased market requirements as the suspension of the carrier's crucial Chinese traffic takes effect.
The coronavirus outbreak has forced Finnair to adjust its traffic program, cancelling all mainland China flights equalling some 200 rotations so far until February 28, 2020, while flights on routes between Helsinki and Guangzhou, Beijing Daxing and Nanjing have been cancelled in March 2020 as well.
Finnair normally operates 35 weekly flights from Helsinki to its destinations in China, and most of these rotations can be operated by only one aircraft, thanks to the favourable geographical location of Helsinki.
In the summer 2020 schedule, Finnair will be performing 42 weekly flights to seven destinations - Beijing Airport, Beijing Daxing Airport, Shanghai, Xian, Nanjing and Guangzhou, as well as Hong Kong.
