Mar 19, 2020 (newstodate): According to the latest statistics from Eurocontrol, the over-all commercial passenger air traffic in the European network dropped by 2.6 percent, y-o-y, in February 2020 - but the China-Europe traffic took the deepest blow.
Figures show that the volume of flights between Europe and China fell by no less than 61 percent, y-o-y, in February as the coronavirus took off in China.
The number of daily flights on the Europe-China routes thus dropped by 98 operations.
The volume of flights between Europe and Hong Kong also declined by 19.9 percent in February 2020 as airlines reined in, or suspended, their operations.
In Europe, Germany saw the volume of flights to and from China down 19 percent, in the UK the decline was 15 percent, and France dipped by 14 in February 2020.
