Apr 20, 2020 (newstodate): Iran Airport Company, managing the country's airports as well as its Air Traffic Management and collecting overflight charges, is in dire financial straits.
The traffic through its airports as well as international airlines' flights through Iranian airspace is severely hit, not only by the current global aviation crisis cue to the coronavirus, but also by the effect from the country's allegedly unintentional downing of a Ukrainian passenger aircraft in January 2020.
As a result, the volume of overflights through Iran's airspace has dropped from an earlier average of some 1,000 daily flights to only about 100.
The income of Iran Airport Company has dwindled accordingly, and with little air traffic at the airports, income is now down alarmingly, causing a stop to development projects, introducing of pay cuts and abrogating contracts.
