If the most promising predictions materialize, more passengers will be passing through the airport in 2024 than in 2019, the year before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Around seven million passengers passed through the airport in 2019, compared to 1.3 million in 2020 during the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The scenarios now outlined indicate that the estimated number of passengers will reach 2.2 million in 2021, around 4–5 million in 2022, 4–6 million in 2023, and between 5.5 and 7.9 in 2024.
In 2021, Keflavík Airport has seen the return of 79 percent of the destinations on offer in 2019, compared to 72 percent in Copenhagen, 71 percent in Oslo, 67 percent in Stockholm, and 59 percent in Helsinki.
This winter, 17 airlines are offering fights to 56 destinations from Keflavik Airport compared to 16 airlines and 54 destinations in W'19
