Mar 19, 2021 (newstodate): SAS has now taken delivery of the fifth Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Rounding off its test flight program at Toulouse, the aircraft performed its Customer Acceptance flight on March 18, 2021, and will reach Copenhagen Airport shortly.
The aircraft is the fifth of a total of eight aircraft ordered by SAS.
In October 2014, SAS firmed up its MoU signed in June 2013 with Airbus for eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with options for a further six aircraft.
According to the MoU, SAS would take delivery of its first of eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft in 2018, but the delivery scheme was adjusted in 2016 as a consequence of the airline's financial problems at the time.
With the new schedule, SAS took delivery of its first Airbus A350 in November 2019, followed by deliveries of the second and third aircraft by spring 2020, and the fourth aircraft in July 2020.
The remaining three aircraft on firm orders should then be delivered in 2021.
However, in August 2020 SAS again negotiated the deferral of deliveries of the remaining Airbus A350 aircraft.
According to the new agreement with Airbus, delivery of the last two Airbus A350-900 will now be delayed by one year till 2022.
