Apr 14, 2021 (newstodate): Among the growing list of entrepreneurial airline projects in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic is the Icelandic LCC-project Play that seems to be taking steps fresh towards launch of services.
At least on the financial side, the project has gained fresh muscles by the injection of USD35 million via a private share offering, bringing in new owners, and Play also aims to seek listing on the Nasdaq First North stock exchange to further bolster its capital basis.
The project is, however, still to obtain its AOC after which a cautious opening is expected, including daily services from Keflavik to London and Dublin starting from H1, 2021.
The core group behind the project earlier planned that flights would commence in December 2019, starting out with two Airbus A321 aircraft, growing to six aircraft in 2020, and to 10 aircraft within the first three years of operation.
Heading Play is now Birgir Jonsson as CEO, formerly serving as Managing Director of the now-defunct WOW Air.
