Jun 16, 2021 (newstodate): Operating in a small market under heavy pressure from the Covid-19 and the limitations to air traffic, the Faroe Islands' carrier Atlantic Airways is rather optimistic ahead of the crucial summer season.
-It does look rather promising; sales are growing, and exceeding the levels since March 2020 - but bookings only tend to come in rather late, says Johanna a Berghi, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-During this summer season, we are operating seven routes from Vagar Airport, to Copenhagen, Billund and Aarhus, and to Keflavik, Oslo, Palma de Mallorca, as well as to Edinburgh.
-Copenhagen is doing fine with two-three daily flights in summer, as well as two dailies to Keflavik and to Edinburgh. But flights to the UK and Norway are still a bit volatile as the status of the Coronavirus seems to vary over time.
-In the fleet of Atlantic Airways are four Airbus aircraft; our last remaining Airbus A319 has now entered service on a lease contract with the Spanish airline One Airways from June 2021, while our three Airbus A320 aircraft are fully utilized for operating our own network, leaving no excess capacity for the season.
-Looking ahead, we will resume efforts after the Covid-19 restrictions to negotiate code-share agreements with European and other airlines. Today, Air France/KLM is our only code-share partner, and it is important for us to extend this coverage to expand our services based on our country's positive international branding, says Mrs a Berghi.
