Aug 17, 2021 (newstodate): At least three aircraft are now at Pakistan's Islamabad International Airport as part of efforts to lift Danes and other nationals out of Afghanistan, including 431 Afghans that have served the Danish military and diplomatic mission.
According to the internet service flightradar24, two Airbus A320neo from SAS and one MD-83 from DAT departed from Copenhagen Airport on Monday heading for the Pakistani airport that is within reach of Kabul Airport where operations are, however, highly restricted for civil air traffic and under US military control and airnav management.
The Danish TV station TV2 has been in contact with Jesper Rungholm, CAT owner and CEO, who confirms that he is himself in the cockpit of the DAT aircraft at Islamabad.
According to another source, still to be confirmed, Denmark is also sending one Royal Danish Air Force C-130 to the region via Turkey on Tuesday night to support the mission.
