Sep 22, 2021 (newstodate): Handling a total of 16,267 tonnes of cargo in January-August 2021, Latvia's Riga Airport is slowly moving closer to pre-Covid levels in 2019.
2021 is thus trailing "only" nine percent behind January-August 2019 - but 17 percent above the same period in 2020 when only 13,859 tonnes of cargo was handled as passenger air traffic came close to a nadir.
So far, 2018 remains a record year for Riga Airport, with a total of 28,258 tonnes of cargo handled.
In 2020 and 2021, cargo on all-cargo and freighter flights dominates the market at Riga Airport, while belly-cargo that is normally the main provider still lags behind, albeit slowly picking up again in 2021.
