Sep 08, 2021 (newstodate): SAS has again-again negotiated the deferral of its remaining two Airbus A350-900 deliveries by one year.
Earlier slated for delivery in 2022 and 2023, respectively, the new dates will instead be pushed back by one year, till 2024, instead.
The decision reflects the sustained cooled expectations for a fast recovery in the market for air travel.
In October 2014, SAS firmed up its MoU signed in June 2013 with Airbus for eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with options for a further six aircraft.
According to the MoU, SAS would take delivery of its first of eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft in 2018, but the delivery scheme was adjusted in 2016 as a consequence of the airline's financial problems at the time.
With the new schedule, SAS took delivery of its first Airbus A350 in November 2019, followed by deliveries of the second and third aircraft by spring 2020, and the fourth aircraft in July 2020. The remaining three aircraft on firm orders should then be delivered in 2021 - and the fifth Airbus A350 was duly delivered to SAS in March 2021, followed by the sixth in summer 2021.
However, in August 2020 SAS again negotiated the deferral of deliveries of the remaining two Airbus A350 aircraft.
According to the new agreement with Airbus, delivery of the last two Airbus A350-900 would be delayed by one year till 2022.
With the latest adjustment, this has thus again-again been reviewed and pushed back...
