Oct 31, 2022 (newstodate): Finnair has now resumed services from Helsinki to Tokyo Haneda Airport, with the first flight on October 30, 2022.
Flight will be performed on a daily basis, in addition to Finnair's twice-weekly operations between Helsinki and Tokyo Narita Airport that were reopened from March 9, 2022, after the suspension during the Covid-19 and the strict health requirements by the Japanese government.
The new flights to Tokyo Haneda are forced to operate over the North Pole to avoid Russian airspace; this takes a heavy toll on the flying time that will be close to 13 hours.
This also requires Finnair to operate the Airbus A350 cleared for ETOPS 300 minutes, which entails adherence to further regulatory and maintenance requirements.
The flights between Helsinki and Tokyo Haneda are code-shared with Japan Airlines, that has also been serving the route between Helsinki and Tokyo Narita Airport since February 25, 2013.
