Nov 03, 2022 (newstodate): The coming new cargo airline on the Faroe Islands, FarCargo is now shaping up, readying for start of commercial operations before Christmas.
-We expect to take delivery of our aircraft, a Boeing 757-200 converted freighter, by early December, says Birgir Nielsen, FarCargo CEO.
-Plans are to introduce the aircraft on a contract for cargo flights within Europe for a month or so, and flights from Vagar Airport to the first US destination, New York Newark Airport, will commence in January or February with an initial frequency of three to five monthly rotations, carrying Faroese seafood for the prime owner of the airline, Bakkafrost.
-As part of the business case, we are now seeking airfreight customers for the return flights from the USA to Europe, including either Copenhagen Airport or Billund Airport, says Mr Nielsen.
Bakkafrost has itself invested in the acquisition of the converted Boeing 757-200 aircraft that will be placed on the AOC of West Atlantic in the initial phase, while FarCargo has the vision of acquiring an own AOC at a later stage.
