Sep 06, 2022 (newstodate): In 2022, Estonia's Tallinn Airport is still outpacing most airports in cargo growth and securing a position as the region's fastest-growing in cargo volumes.
In the first eight months of this year, the airport has thus handled a total of 7,447 tonnes of cargo - an increase by 17.7 percent, y-o-y.
August was no exception, seeing volumes up by 10.9 percent to 923 tonnes; but excepting April so far every month has seen positive growth in volumes.
In the plans for Tallinn Airport is a new cargo city that is still in the construction phase with much work going on, while a crucial part of the plan, construction of a new apron to serve both cargo operators and MRO companies, was finalized by the end of 2021.
Also, the runway has been extended to 3,480 m; two cargo terminals are operating at the airport, and with the completion of the plans for a new cargo city, the total cargo handling capacity will increase by 100 percent compared to today's situation.
To further boost efforts on developing and promoting the airport's cargo capabilities, stakeholders in the country's air cargo community will meet in September 2022 in the first Air Cargo Forum.
