Sep 29, 2022 (newstodate): The freighter service by Virgin Atlantic Cargo connecting London Heathrow and Billund Airport did not last long..
The carrier has informed the market that the last rotation on the route will be performed on October 2, 2022, terminating the project launched with the opening flight on August 3, 2022.
Virgin Atlantic Cargo has been offering three weekly rotations connecting Billund Airport to its main base at London Heathrow Airport with transfer of cargo shipments to and from destinations in the USA, South Africa and a range of other options, and providing customers with the option to cut days off the total transport time for air cargo shipments to transfer at London Heathrow Airport by avoiding trucking to the UK.
-Unfortunately the route has proven to be less commercially successful than we had hoped, and we have therefore taken the difficult decision to terminate the service earlier than planned so that the aircraft can be redeployed to other routes within Europe, says Holly Tongue, Virgin Atlantic Cargo Regional Sales Manager, Europe, in the statement.
Serving Virgin Atlantic Cargo as GSSA in the Scandinavian markets is WHF that has been instrumental in bringing about this venture that, however, survived only for two months.
