Jan 19, 2023 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport exited 2022 with a growth in cargo by 5.4 percent, y-o-y.
A total of 11,128 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport in January-December 2022, including 9,848 tonnes of cargo and 1,279 tonnes of mail.
The year started out strongly, but the effects from Russia's war on Ukraine and the closure of Russian airspace soon spelled disruption of the global supply chains, effecting also cargo traffic at Tallinn Airport that was building up in the e-trade logistics segments.
However, Tallinn Airport remains determined to grow its cargo business; in the plans is a new cargo city that is still in the construction phase with much work going on, while a crucial part of the plan, construction of a new apron to serve both cargo operators and MRO companies, was finalized by the end of 2021.
Also, the runway has been extended to 3,480 m; two cargo terminals are operating at the airport, and with the completion of the plans for a new cargo city, the total cargo handling capacity will increase by 100 percent compared to today.
